Current mood: tired
Current music:'Wicked' soundtrack

I thought today was going to be terrible; in fact, I've spent most of the day in a relatively foul mood (I say 'relatively' because I'm usually quite personable, but today I just wanted to crawl under a rock and make snide remarks at oblivious passers-by). But, I'm feeling a bit better now.

I've just finished watching Dexter with mum (fast becoming a sunday night ritual - I don't exactly know why, but WOAH I LOVE THIS SHOW), and am about to do a bit more college work before heading off to bed; work again tomorrow. Between my two current jobs, I'm working 5 days this coming week. Smart, Rhianna, smart. There was a new pharmacy assistant at work today, and I think she already knows more than I do. Crumbs - I'm forever doomed to be the workplace numbskull in this job. Everyone's saying I should quit my pharmacy job now that I've got something else going, but I feel lousy abandoning them just after the shop has been refit and everything. I really do like the people there - I don't necessarily like the job that much, but it's not so bad.

Tomorrow night and tuesday are going to be my only real chances to get my assignment quota done before Friday, and I have a heck of a lot to do, so my apologies in advance to anyone who has to put up with my stressing - that means you too, Ray, sorry I'm not more entertaining when I'm like this :)

Anyway, here's some

Here's a few things I'm working on for college at the moment. Firstly, a few backgrounds for my short film:

Photobucket
Working 2D backgrounds in with 3D characters is going to be an interesting one, but it does save me a lot of modeling annoying environments, which is a real plus! I'm getting slightly better at background design - it's never been a strong point for me, but I reckon I could even grow to like it one day.

Photobucket
The same setting, obviously at night. The clouds are going to be animated and full of cool swirling creature things. If I ever finish this, that is.

Photobucket
3D elements with an as-yet-unfinished background matte painting. This one looks a lot less Flash-y than the preceding two, whcih probably means I'll have to texture the others up a bit for style consistency. This is Walter's school classroom (and the crappy bookcase is just there temporarily as a guide).

Photobucket
And last, my matte-painting Steampunk Aquarium project in progress. A lot of this stuff is either temporary photos that will be replaced with painting, or scribbly experimentation, but I think I'm liking how it's going so far, anyway. The little tank module things are meant to resemble antique diving helmets - boy do I want one of those! In fact, I think I've decided that, when college is over, I'm going to devote a significant portion of my then-free-time to adopting a more steampunk lifestyle (while I'm still young enough to carry it off :D). Bring on the goggles!

Also, my good friend recorded a great voice that I've just finished cutting together for my character animation module; now I officially have 1.5 minutes of Rincewind dialogue (and an almost-complete 3D model of the afforementioned Wizzard) to look forward to animating. Woo! I'll post some progress pics on him when I next get the chance.

Argh! Bedtime! I don't like going to bed this early (i.e before midnight), but I don't like getting up at 5:30 either, so there has to be a compromise in there somewhere. More background work tomorrow, and a SoftImage/XSI demonstration on Wednesday! I really do love this job so far.

You're very good at backgrounds. I think my favorite is the third one with the desk and books.

Thanks Jess! I like the way that one turned out too; hopefully most of the film will look kinda like that :)

Aww, thankyou Amanda! I'm looking forward to seeing yours too, I've been loving the line tests you've been posting lately! When do you finish?

Gosh, your backgrounds are gorgeous! When you graduate, if you're willing to move for a job, think about applying for a static artist (or animator, if you like 3D) position at my company. If there's a position open at the time - and I'd let you know if there was - they'd hire you in a heartbeat. If you're interested in this sort of thing, of course. The pay is quite good and it's leagues more reliable than any animation job I've had.

In other news, I'll be down for the Jenolan adventure next week. Nothing's changed since we discussed it last; I'm hoping to crash at yours on Tuesday night, and after that I'll be at the backpackers 'til Sunday doing cave tours (I'd love for you to join me if you're free at any point during that time). Can you email me your mobile number? tania@crikeyduck.com. I think I had it once when we did the thing with the desks but I've gone to a new phone since then and it didn't make the transition.

Ohmygosh! Excitement! I'm really looking forward to meeting you. :)

Also, agreed on steampunk. Joe and I are into it, not just for personal dress but for home decor too; I picked up the most lovely framed old-style two-hemisphere world map the other day. <3 And Joe bought me a hand-made iron skeleton key as a gift on the weekend, it's sitting on my desk adding untold levels of Awesome to my workspace as we speak.

I love all the backgrounds! My favorite thing up here is the steampunk aquarium... it all looks so intricate :D

Thanks Zoe! And how are you going? It's been a long time since we got the chance to chat, how is your course going? :)

I know, it has been a while! Things are going good, I've been on summer break for the past couple of months.
School starts in less than a week. I'm so excited, I get to take two animation classes :D
